a brief Hootenanny History
This little shin-dig started out as a fundraiser for a community center our church, Salem Lutheran, purchased a few years back. We called it Revive the School: Gospel Fest and More, and held it at the Carlton County Fairgrounds. Its success helped move this building, now officially dubbed Salem's Mahtowa Hall. We have watched its evolution over the past 5 years, as new flooring was put in, the kitchen was renovated, walls were painted and bathrooms were updated. With the proceeds from every Holy Hootenanners' event and massive building and remodeling efforts from the members of Salem Lutheran Church, it is now a place we are proud to open up to community members for weddings, showers, parties and other events, as well as a place where musical magic happens.
Our focus has changed since that first fundraiser, and now our Mahtowa Hootenanny is a way for the Hoots to give back to the community by providing a day of free entertainment and fun for all ages every year. In its evolution, the Mahtowa Hootenanny has showcased the talents of artists such as Feeding Leroy, Roe Family Singers, Cedar Creek Singers, Fishheads, Care Bears, Care Bears, Yeah!, Milkbone, Matt Ray, The Gilbertson Brothers, Jacob Mahon, Mama's Stolen Horses, Nathan Frazer, and other wonderful musicians.
